My favorite Items during Pregnancy

Updated: Feb 9

Hi all! I'm currently writing this in my 38th week of pregnancy and wanted to share with you some items I enjoyed that helped me get through the last 9 1/2 months.

  1. Honest Bump Care Products

I personally loved these products, pregnancy leaves you with dry itchy skin, especially when your bump starts to grow. I used the Rock the Bump Body Butter, Glow on Body Oil, and Sweet Curves Body Lotion

2. Pregnancy Pillow

I cannot recommend a good pregnancy pillow enough! Sleeping during pregnancy is hard, as you start to grow it becomes more and more uncomfortable and your position options are limited. Since you have to sleep on your side, you need something that will cradle you and can go between your legs as well to promote proper lumbar support. There are so many different options out there from C-shaped to U- shaped, I went with the Pharmedoc C-Shaped Pillow, and have been sleeping with it every night since about 14 weeks! I like that it's easy to clean, you simply unzip the cover and throw it in the wash. This pillow has provided my back and hips with plenty of support!

3. Maternity Belt or Pants Extenders/Belly Band

So, I tried both of these items, and I personally liked the back brace more than the pants extenders. The pants extenders really only worked for me for about a month. Their purpose is when you can no longer button your pants you wear them over your belly and the top of your pants. They are also advertised as shapewear under certain pieces of clothing. With my pregnancy, my thighs/hips/butt have gotten larger so things like shorts or pants stopped fitting me into my second trimester. I'm wondering if they might be comfortable in the post partum period to give support. I'll let you all know when I get there! Again, every person's body is different so these might work great for some of you!

At Work I spend a lot of time on my feet standing all day so the maternity belt was a huge game changer for me. It gives support right under the bump, can be worn under clothes, and largely helped the pain in my lower back! I also use it when I'm doing chores around the house or going for walks. I purchased both of my items on amazon

This is the Support Belt I used, found it on amazon, the brand is Keababies

These were the Belly Bands I bought, also on Amazon, 2 come in a pack, the brand is OTIOTI

4. A large Water Bottle

This might sound funny, but a good water bottle was a necessity for me! While pregnant, water intake is VERY important, drinking adequate water prevents certain complications from happening, not to mention, your thirst increases exponentially, as your blood volume can increase by 40%! I personally bought a 1/2 gallon bottle, which was not too heavy to carry and I usually only needed to fill it 2X a day. This was also a great way for me to track my water intake to make sure that I was drinking enough water and staying hydrated. I found one I like on amazon that was not only pretty, but had inspirational sayings along the side, along with a helpful carrying lanyard handle

I used the Giotto Large Half Gallon Water Bottle on Amazon

5. Comfy Clothing

It is inevitable, eventually normal clothes will stop to fit as our babies start to grow. I personally wanted to keep my maternity clothes as simple as possible, and not spend too much money on things I would only be wearing for a few months. That being said, I found some of my best inexpensive buys from Old Navy, Amazon, and Target. My most worn items were stretchy shorts/leggings, Maternity T-Shirts, and Maternity Stretchy dresses I bought from the above mentioned stores. I did spend a little more on Two dresses, one for a wedding I attended and one for my own baby shower from

The pink dress on the left was a staple in my wardrobe, from Old Navy, very stretchy and comfortable, and I was able to wear it through my whole pregnancy. I bought the same dress in black as well. The dress on the right, I bought for a wedding we attended in August, from, again comfortable, however only wore it once for the event and don't anticipate wearing it again in the next few weeks prior to baby coming

Otherwise on a regular day, you could find me in one of these Small Show stretchy shirts. and this pair of Motherhood Maternity Leggings. All bought from Amazon!

6. Pregnancy Books

There were two books I read that I found very helpful during my pregnancy. The first was Expecting Better: Why the Conventional Pregnancy Wisdom Is Wrong--and What You Really Need to Know by Emily Oster. This was a great book that focused on evidence based research and dispelled a lot of the myths and outdated information we are always told about during pregnancy. I felt like this book allowed me to take in the information she provided and then make my own choices throughout my pregnancy.

The second book I really enjoyed was Ina May's Guide to Childbirth by Ina May Gaskin. Natural childbirth has been something that has interested me since I became pregnant and the beginning of the book is all different stories from women who gave birth naturally. It provides stories from women who had both easy and difficult births, some with complications. Whether or not you are planning on a medicated or unmedicated birth I think this book shares great practical advice and reminds us of how important the mind body connection is.
