Christmas Traditions to Start with Your Family

Since having our daughter, I have been putting a lot of thought into how I want to make the holidays special for her. Every family grows up with different traditions, and there are some that I will carry on from when I was a child, and new ones I want to incorporate with her. I created a list of 11 possible traditions that I may do in the upcoming years

1. Buy a new Christmas Ornament for each child. This is something my mother did for us growing up, and we would get to unwrap them on Christmas eve. As a child I looked forward to this every year, and now as an adult I still have all those ornament’s that I continue to put on my tree.

2. Watch a favorite Christmas Movie in Christmas Pajamas while drinking hot chocolate. My personal favorite family friendly movies are Elf, Miracle of 34th street, The Polar Express, and It’s a Wonderful Life

3. Decorate the house with all the decorations and tree the weekend after thanksgiving

4. Attend a local tree lighting

5. Go For a drive to look at all the Christmas Lights

6. Bake Christmas cookies and make gift baskets for family and friends

7. Have a Christmas Tamal party (or other cultural food party). This is something we have been doing with my family for several years now, and we will continue to do.

8. See a live show such as the Nutcracker or the Christmas Spectacular

9. Go to a Christmas Market, in the past Sabino and I have been to the one in Bethlehem, PA

10. Do a Christmas themed craft as a family (pain pictures, make ornaments, make snowflakes)

11. Donate to a charity as a family. There are so many in need this time of year, and an many organizations look for help buying Christmas presents for children
